what does "Natural Gelato” mean?

A month after our official opening, on December 7th, we decided it was time to write our first article, and the topic will be related to a question that various customers have asked us about the name of the place: what does "Natural Gelato” mean?

Each of us, every day, is exposed to toxins present in the air, water and foods that have harmful effects on our health. As much as we can pay attention to our food choices, we are often not aware of the fact that agri-food companies may use hundreds of additives with the aim of making their products more attractive to the final consumer. That is us.

The FDA maintains a list of over 700 food additives that are generally registered as safe (GRAS). These additives serve a variety of purposes, such as preserving, adding sweetness, color, texture, flavor, etc. However, many of the additives on this list have never been tested and some substances are known to be harmful.

According to the FDA, the additives that have proven to be toxic are used alone at a level of 1/100 of the sum which is considered harmful, the problem is that it’s not mentioned that people aren’t exposed to a single substance at the time, but at many and at the same time.

All this preamble to explain that we don’t use any kind of food that contains preservatives, artificial colorants, flavor enhancers or artificial flavors, so basically all the additives that are present in the majority of the ready-to-use mixes where you only need to add milk and/or water to make the “gelato”.

We buy all the raw materials such as sugar, milk, cream, fruit, chocolate, etc. separate, so we can select every single ingredient based on its actual quality, not on the basis of the name rather than marketing: if in the ingredient list we notice even a single ingredient that goes against our idea of ​​natural, even if it’s present in a minimum quantity, we’re going to look for something else.

We also believe that the nutritional aspect of gelato is important, for this reason we only use fresh milk, fresh cream, fresh eggs, and fresh fruit, so that we can offer a product rich in proteins, unsaturated fats (the good ones), vitamins, and minerals.

When we have finally found the ingredients that satisfy us, we start with the study, balancing and testing of the recipe, for a true artisan production from start to finish.

We ourselves eat our gelato every day (we like to think that we do it for quality control…), and we would never produce and sell something that doesn’t satisfies us first: we don’t want our gelato to be only good but also healthy .

This is our conception of Natural Gelato.
