about

We're a couple who moved from Italy to LA with the dream to open a small gelato shop to offer a real Italian experience.

ciao!

We are Alessandro and Alejandra, a couple as in love with gelato as we are for each other. We’ve spent the last few years traveling between Italy and Mexico (our native countries) discovering ourselves and deepening our love for each other. During our travels we discovered California, a magical place we’ve decided to call home.

We were inspired to bring the vibrant colors of California sunsets to life doing what we know best: making delicious all natural authentic Italian gelato. Everyday we discover more to love in this wonderful city. Our heritage, love for each other, and Los Angeles, all come together to provide the inspiration we use when making what we believe is the most authentic gelato in Los Angeles.

Us making gelato in Florence, Italy

new beginning

I wanted to do something different after working several years in an office and my wife, who grew up studying and working in the culinary field, especially desserts and pastry, always dreamed to have her own little food business. Putting all these pieces together, Italy + desserts + California weather the answer was clear: gelato!

firenze

We decided to go to Florence, the city that gave birth to the modern gelato. Thanks to the support and experience of the gelato master Vetulio Bondi, who welcomed us to his laboratory, we learnt the secrets of the real artisanal gelato.

If we have to summarize our Florentine experience in one expression, we’d say that making gelato is simple, but making simple gelato is not.

back to the 19th century

Maybe you’re wondering the meaning of our name: “ecco un poco”, which translates to “here’s a little”, an expression made popular by Italian immigrants that turned out to be the very first gelato vendors in the USA, at the end of the 19th century.

Children and adults alike would turn “ecco un poco” to “hokey pokey”, a close phonetic approximation to the words, so street ice cream vendors became the hokey pokey men.

This story highlights the good things that are born when Italian and American history collide. We chose the name “ecco un poco” in honor of the first Italian gelato vendors that changed the concept of street food, one gelato cone at a time.

completely natural

Every single day we put all our effort to provide you the best possible gelato, you’ll tell us if you like it or not, what we can promise you is that it’s one of the most natural you’ll ever taste.
